I remember in the early days of IQ tests, those of us who were good at English at school would come out as damn near geniuses. That’s because IQ tests then were biased towards language skills and vocabulary acquisition which kinda left those mathematical geniuses who could flip differential equations in their heads for fun feeling a little bemused and very disillusioned.
While fairness has now crept back in, in IQ tests which test for more than the ability to correctly and ingeniously use language the same cannot be said about search engine optimization (SEO) which is driven by language and the ability to write. This gives writers and authors a distinct advantage (just like back at school in the early days of IQ tests) when it comes to successfully optimizing their websites, provided, of course, they understand a little about the basics involved.
Original content, regular posts, interlinked themes, thematic linking, added value in terms of what’s being said and the ability to understand language and how it’s used are better associated with writers and authors than search engine optimizers.
This means that if you are in the writing business and have a book to promote like SEO Help: 20 steps to get your website to Google’s #1 page which, currently dominates Google’s first page taking up all available slots for that particular search term, you have a distinct advantage over non-writers.
Just how you use that ability is, of course, directly related to your understanding, as a writer and author of many of the factors which govern search engine optimization (SEO). Some of these are purely technical, some of them are subject to language manipulation and clever use of semantics. All of them are subject to logic and logical associations. If, as a writer, you have very little time to devote to learning about SEO then you can still make gains in terms of how your website appears on the web by working out a clearly organized series of articles on something very specific to your book which also reflects what those looking for it will be searching for and simply sit down and write.
This is by no means great SEO but in terms of the time and effort required it will give you incredible results and you will begin to gain more online visibility without noticeably adding to your workload or taking yourself away from writing.
