Internet advertising revenue grows at the rate of 25% a quarter on a year to year basis

If your website is in the online advertising business the good news is that the slice of the pie you can possibly have has just got bigger. The results released at the beginning of October show that for the first half of 2007 internet advertising has broken a new record with more than $10 billion being spent online in an approximately 25% increase over the same time last year.

Again, another record was broken when the $5 billion figure was broken for online ad money being spent in a single quarter. The figures, released by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) are a clear indication that online advertising should be at least one of your website’s monetising layers bringing in a constant, additional, income stream.

The model you employ could range from Google Ads (which are increasing in reach, targeting and usage) to banner ads. The IAB figures show exactly where the money is spent.

The point is that you work hard to get traffic to your site and you should think of additional ways to capitalise on this traffic through the employment of ads that go someway towards offsetting your operational costs or even help get your site into the black.

The way to sell online advertising, always, is through online text (you should have an area on your website regarding online advertising) and a Press Pack explaining your site’s reach, traffic and costs for each type of advertising.

This is a passive way of making money but with demand rising it can be a really lucrative one.
