Google’s targeted YouTube ads extend Google AdSence reach and power

Ever since Google acquired YouTube the question has been how is it going to use it to make money from it and what will it mean to the average webmaster struggling to optimise his website.

Back in October [2007] we saw Google pioneer its Video Units program which allowed AdSense partners to run YouTube video on their site which also displayed Google Ads and therefore helped create visually powerful content for their sites while it made them money from the ads that were displayed around the video.

Google has now rolled out its program to include UK and Ireland thereby expanding its AdSense reach which will benefit from new content by many thousands of sites and targeting the very competitive UK and Irish markets.

How does this affect your SEO? Unless you are also using Google AdWords to reach targeted audience in the UK and Ireland, chances are it will not make a single moment’s difference to what you are doing now. However, if you are thinking of releasing a YouTube video in an effort to promote your website and services (and you must be following our SEO Advanced Search Engine Marketing (SEM) articles for that, then you will know that suddenly your potential reach on the web has grown to include not just the massive audience of YouTube itself but also many thousands of sites which will now be able to use your video as content on their website and profile your products and services that way.
