Before the web came along you when you wanted to advertise your business you went on TV. TV offered hundreds of thousands, even millions, of passive viewers who would receive your business message and some of which would, hopefully, become your customers.
Twitter of course is interactive but the a Pew Study Report released last year suggest that the degree of interactivity is fairly limited leading to a relatively passive consumption of news. The study shows that 75 percent of those surveyed who found news online receive it via forwarded emails or posts on social media, such as Facebook or Twitter and more than half of them (52 percent) forward news those ways.
This shows the power Twitter has in creating a powerful reach at zero cost (it takes moments to actually post a message) and its ability to widen the circle of those who see your message exponentially.
The official Twitter blog details ways you can use Twitter to carry out searches. While writing Online Marketing Help I had direct access to information which showed that entrepreneurs use Twitter to discover new ventures to invest in and new business to partner up with.
Twitter’s relatively passive consumption of information makes it the digital equivalent of an always on, global news service. Its 175 million users offer one of the largest, unified audience to employ to promote your business services and products.
