There are many components to search engine optimization, that’s true, but when it comes to optimizing your website a Blog should be one of your primary daily weapons. Why? For many reasons. I know blog posts (such as this one) tend to get long and complicated and, in many respects, are indistinguishable from articles but a Blog is not the same as an article page.
Blogs, initially, were set up to act as daily diaries and in that regard they grew in popularity and proliferated long before their value as SEO aids was realized. By blogging as a diarist, expert in his field, you stand the best chance possible to convey the freshness and value which online visitors look for. A diary entry does not require to have the required “beginning, middle and an end” which an article needs, nor does it need the structured approach to presenting information which an article has to have.
A diarist’s approach to blogging on your site gives you the opportunity to present relevant information in a totally contextual way with minimal thought. All you need is an understanding of how your products and services work and what makes them different to those offered by any of your competitors and then, presto! Instant fresh, original and relevant content.
If we took the same approach to this post today, for instance, and dispensed with the need to dress it up in an article format, which for us is a convention which is made possible by our particular skillset which includes writing skills, the page would look like this:
“Thought today that SEO would be served better by a list point system showing why a diarist approach would be better than an article one for SEO.
Diarist approach SEO advantages:
This way content for the website would work brilliantly well for online visitors and search engines alike.”
Is there a drawback to this elegantly simple way of optimizing your website? Yes, there is. Search engines unfortunately (due to abuses in the past by unscrupulous search engine optimizers) require a bit of length in a blog post in order to take it seriously. That though is only a short-term issue. Adopt this way of blogging, search engine market each blog post properly, cross-link them where necessary and add to your site two-three times a day and before you know it you will have a sizeable number of blog entries attracting search engine bot attention and negating any issues which have to do with size.
If I were being really clever here, I’d wink and say when it comes to SEO size does not matter, it’s how often you do it which does.
