When mentoring individuals to help promote their online business one of the inevitable subjects which come up is the ‘best time’ to work on the overall SEO status of your website. When it does I give up the answer I inevitably give up and that is ‘the weekend’.
At this point any of you who have a family or decided to go into the online business so you can spend more time on your tan or snowboarding will be reaching for the pitchforks and burning torches but before you start brandishing them in the air and forming the all-necessary mob needed to pull it off, consider that I have also written extensively on this subject.

The Joy of Weekend Working and Work-life balance and SEO were two posts aimed at, very specifically, addressing this issue.
The reason the weekend is the best time to work on your blog and site as a whole lies in the way we think. The moment Friday rolls past and the weekend arrives we seem to relax a little bit, both mentally and physically. The urgency to check your Blackberry, answer emails and pick up the phone is suddenly off and this, more relaxed approach to working, is exactly what is needed in order to assess your online business and decide whether the direction you have taken needs some tweaking.
Working within a more corporate environment, a responsibly managed company will allocate specific time to think without pressure in order to get the most from its people. Working on your own this is not possible. The lines between ‘life’ and ‘work’ get increasingly blurred and the time when you should be working on your business rather than in it tends to become curtailed as the daily demands of running a business only seem to increase.
This is why the weekend becomes invaluable for running your business in a more strategic fashion. This is the best time to examine critically what you do day-in, day-out, each week, assess your long term goals and actually see how it is all working for you.
Because it is weekend you also get to do this any way you want, from being in your smalls in the living room with a can of beer to chilling under a tree in the park with a Starbucks coffee and a wi-fi connection. As long as it unfetters your mind and helps you think the way you should then it’s working for you (and feels a lot less like work).
Contests are always a lot of fun, particularly when you stand to gain something from them. Fun and gain never become more important than when they are combined with SEO. Optimization is not rocket science. It is...
