After years of research and experience, few hard studies created by our team we managed to create a tool to calculate keyword potential for any website and any set of keywords which you can use, for free of course. In this article I will explain how the process works and how and for what you can use it.

There are two sets of keywords you can use this methodology on, your current ranking keywords and non ranking keywords. For your current ranking keywords all you need to do is open your Google Webmaster tools dashboard and look at the ranking keywords that bring search traffic, take note of their average ranking, impressions and the CTR as well as your clicks, using a model for CTR based on research you can calculate what kind of traffic you can expect for each rank you go up, and better yet you can calculate the traffic for top 10 positions for your keywords. By combining impressions and CTR you can calculate the number of clicks on your own, and vice versa, add to that your rank for the chosen keyword and you can try to predict the number of clicks if you move a rank up or even higher.

Our keyword potential calculator does that automatically, you can just import your keywords in a spreadsheet downloaded from GWT; it does the same for non ranking keywords. This is a bit harder for you to calculate on your own, but you don’t need to, all you have to do is download your chosen keywords from the Google Adwords Keyword tool and upload them to our keyword potential calculator and you will get traffic predictions on which you can base your link building and SEO campaign on.

As you can see on the image above from 6 keywords tested we were able to find 3 keywords with great potential and 3 keywords we should eliminate from our link building efforts. Just based on the current number of clicks and clicks projects for number one rank we can see which keywords are worthy of our time. But that is only the top of the iceberg; this tool is more useful than that, it can also give you goal values for your website. We use it show our clients ROI potential for the keywords we are optimising their websites for and you can use it with the same purpose.

With the number of current clicks and their conversions and earnings we can use the same process we use to get scenario projection clicks to get projection ROI for higher rankings if they move one rank up or get to any of the top 10 positions.

The basic idea behind our keyword research methodology is to check already ranking keywords as well as non ranking keywords and find not just the keywords with highest search volumes, but to choose the best keywords from that bunch that have great conversion rates and which can be improved, keywords that will bring more traffic and conversions to our client’s websites.

With the list of keywords you get from our methodology and using out tools you can find the best possible keywords for your website. The only thing you need to do is sort them by their potential and get working by checking the onpage factors for those keywords and doing some quality editorial link building. In order to achieve success in the SEO industry it is essential that you target the right keywords, our process and out tools allow you to do that.
